The Game Designer is responsible for both the overall game concept and the detailed elements of the game design. They develop the rules of the game, the setting, story and characters, props such as power-ups and different ways the game may be played.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all elements of gameplay, story, characters, level design and scripts.
- Devise the missions, challenges and puzzles that will be encountered in game play.
- Create narrative features, such as story-lines, role-play mechanics and character bios.
- Conduct periodic design reviews throughout the video game development timeline.
- Collaborate with artists and sound engineers to achieve the desired audio/visual style.
- Plan games using screenshot mockups, gameplay flowcharts and other visual devices.
- Create, document and communicate all aspects of the overall game vision.
- Maintain design level documentation, including mechanics, guidelines and mission outlines.
- Collaborate with the design, art and technical teams to implement and iterate on the game vision
Requirements:
- At least 1 year experience in game design in a studio or mobile games company
- At least one full game under your belt in the role of Game Designer
- Broad understanding of game balance and statistics.
- Broad understanding of interaction design concepts.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- A strong passion for playing and making video games.
